Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Better Launch (the “Service”), a weekly, category-based startup leaderboard operated by an individual (“we”, “us”), based in Spain. By creating an account, submitting a startup, voting, or purchasing a sponsor slot, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Better Launch lets users submit a startup to a single category, receive votes (“likes”) from other users, and compete in a ranking that is scoped to the current weekly period. Categories and the global leaderboard may also feature a paid sponsor slot, sold through a Dutch (declining-price) auction and processed via Stripe.
2. Accounts
You sign in using Google OAuth. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your Google account secure. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms.
3. Submitting a startup
- Each domain may be submitted to the leaderboard only once, ever.
- A startup may belong to a single category, chosen at submission time.
- The domain and category cannot be changed after submission; the name, description, and logo can.
- You must own or have the right to use the name, description, logo, and domain you submit, and they must not be unlawful, infringing, misleading, or offensive.
- We may remove any submission that breaches these Terms without prior notice.
4. Voting
- Each signed-in user gets up to 3 votes per day, per category.
- You cannot vote for your own startup.
- Votes cannot be withdrawn or transferred once cast.
- Using multiple accounts, automation, or any other method to manipulate votes or rankings is prohibited and may result in vote removal and account termination.
5. Weekly periods
Rankings reset every week: each new period starts with a fresh cohort of startups (those submitted during that period) and a fresh vote count. Startups and their vote history are not deleted from our records — they simply stop appearing in the visual ranking once the period that included them has ended.
6. Sponsor slots and payments
- A sponsor slot is sold per category (or for the global leaderboard) via a Dutch auction: the displayed price falls over time until someone confirms and pays it, through Stripe.
- All payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
- Once a sponsor slot is purchased, that sale is final. The slot remains live until the board resets, and its name, logo, link, and description can be edited at any time while it is active.
- We do not offer refunds except where required by applicable law (for example, if the purchased slot is never displayed due to a fault on our side).
7. Prohibited conduct
You agree not to:
- Submit unlawful, fraudulent, infringing, or malicious content or links;
- Interfere with the Service’s normal operation (scraping abuse, denial of service, exploiting bugs);
- Attempt to manipulate votes, rankings, or the sponsor auction;
- Impersonate another person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with a startup.
8. Intellectual property
You retain ownership of the content you submit (names, descriptions, logos). By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host and display it on the Service for as long as it remains listed. The Better Launch name, design, and software are our property or that of our licensors.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We do not endorse or verify the startups or sponsors listed. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may modify or discontinue the Service, or update these Terms, at any time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Spanish law. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be submitted to the courts of Spain, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
